schooling, community of philosophical inquiry and a new sensibility

This paper seeks to reconstruct the role of schooling in a moment accelerated social, political, economic, geo-political, climatic, indeed planetary crisis. It identifies school as potentially prefigurative institution, an evolutionary social frontier, capable nurturing democratic character, form sensibility apart from which authentic political democracy is not possible. As theorized by Herbert Marcuse and Richard Hart Antonio Negri, “new sensibility” or “multitude” characterized greater psychological freedom, individuality, creativity self-rule, comprising “whole singularities” that “acts common”. suggests human subject with vital, biological drive for liberation, consciousness breaking through material well ideological veil society based on hierarchy domination, associated politically social-anarchism, what Murray Bookchin called “communalism”. three main characteristics institution informed this modal subjectivity, all them student-teacher dialogue: emergent, project-based curriculum, whole-school direct governance levels community, regular practice communal philosophical inquiry, we problematize concepts live by, interest their ongoing reconstruction.
